Skullshifter - Here In Hell EP
"Skullshifter peels away the surface and digs deep beneath the obvious. Slicing through layer upon layer of lies to reveal the truth which exists within.."
God, I love a good bio. I think what Skullshifter is trying to tell us is that they play metal.
A three song EP entitled 'Here In Hell' is the outcome. As Skullshifter (a four piece New Jersey based metal quartet) is peeling away layers, all they seem to reveal is metal. Good old thumping metal with loads of ingredients. Most outstanding feature has to be the fact that the three songs all differ from each other. The opener 'I, Punishment' reminds mainly of Entombed, the second song 'Engines' sounds like Pantera meets Sepultura on extra groove, and the final "layer slicer" is a neat piece of dark metal with Meshuggah-ish chuck-a-chuck rhythems and hardcore shouting.
'Here In Hell' is not peeling away to my surface and revealing any truth. But it does sound like a nice trio of songs that have absolutely nothing to do with each other. I'd like to hear a full album to find out how Skullshifter tend to make the song writing more coherent.
